Q&A with Dr. Richart

What are you most passionate about personally? Professionally?

Professionally, I enjoy helping patients regain their health. I like to say that we have a health span and lifespan. For some people, their health span stops way before their lifespan ends. I want to help people improve their health so they can better enjoy their life.

Personally? I like to practice sincere proactive gratitude. Whether it’s a wave, smile, or positive comment, it can improve someone’s day.

What three traits define you?

Naturally curious, active, and determined. I love to learn, I don’t like to sit around and I don’t easily give up.

What would you do even if you didn’t get paid to do it?

Help people. I have a background in volunteering. I recently spent a day counting and measuring Saguaro cactus arms to help learn about how they grow and thrive in the desert climate.

What are you surprisingly good at?

Professionally, patients tell me I’m good at communicating and making them feel at ease. Personally, I’m very good with trivia, especially about automobiles.

What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?

My wife. She takes excellent care of our family and is my best friend. She is the straw that stirs my drink.

What’s the biggest proof that you’re good at what you do?

Results, and referrals. My practice is best described as a family practice. In time, I usually end up treating the entire family.

How long have you been working in your field?

It’s been 37 years but patient care has never felt like work. I feel fortunate that I am still passionate about my work.

What’s your biggest accomplishment?

Successful health care practice for 37-plus years. I’ll continue as long as I enjoy it and I feel I can make a positive impact on my patients’ health. I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

What’s the weirdest job you ever had?

I worked in a warehouse repackaging dog food for sale after the company learned that it had combined two ingredients at too high of a temperature and that most of the pieces were stuck together.

How does your education connect to your professional career? What about personal experience?

I was my first functional medicine patient. I had lost my health and didn’t want to start taking medication. My first treatment plan was for myself. Spoiler alert. It worked!

What problems do you consistently solve for your clients?

Fatigue, stress-related burnout, sleep issues, and digestive problems. Improving digestion is the key to helping so many different things.

What are complimented on most in your work?

Patients say that they can tell that I’m passionate about what I do and that I have a way of making complex topics understandable.

Who is your ideal client and why should they connect with you?

My ideal client should be coachable. They should have a strong desire to improve their health and maintain it.

What is your grand audacious goal? What do you wish people would know, believe, do?

I would love to be a part of helping shift the paradigm in health to where all people use integrative alternative and complimentary healthcare as their primary choice to improve or eliminate the most common preventable healthcare concerns we currently experience.

Where do you live?

I live northwest of Tucson, Arizona, blocks from the Saguaro National Park. Before that, I lived in Chicago and the north suburbs for over thirty years. I’m originally from central Illinois.

Do you have any family members or pets to include in your bio?

My wife Noriko and I have two Australian Labradoodles named Kenta and Hachi.

Their names are Japanese. Hachi is the Japanese name for the number eight but our Hachi is named after the movie of the same name. In this case, Hachi means loyal. Kenta means strong and healthy. Their names describe them perfectly!

Do you have any other passions or personal goals that you would like to share?

I’m a big Chicago sports fan. I have a goal to climb to the peak of a mountain near my home. I look at it from my driveway every day. It will happen in the next 12 months.

What do you do in your fun time? What are your hobbies?

I love to hike, bike, and cook outside.

I own 7 grills. I cook outside year-round. I used to be the guy who shoveled snow or wore a parka to use his grill in the winter. I enjoy and admire the skill and passion required in making really good, healthy food. Tucson was selected as the first UNESCO city of gastronomy in the US! Just like Chicago, we have great food in Tucson!

Share something unique that most people don’t know about you?

I’m naturally curious and probably too optimistic. But I prefer it that way. I believe things will always work out for the best.
